Cybersecurity at SCEA – Phishing!

Technology has become an essential part of our everyday work life, providing us with the tools and data needed to assist with and inform the jobs we undertake every day.

The data available through your user account at SCEA is valuable to illegal hackers who are focused on one thing – illegally accessing, ransoming, or selling this data for maximum profit or disruption.

How can we combat these hackers and keep our information safe?

The SCEA ICT Team will share some insights into what you can do to help reduce your risk of falling victim to these hacking attempts in the coming weeks.

‘Phishing’ is an approach that seeks to impersonate an organisation or a person you may know or may be familiar with. It can come in the form of an email, text message, social media post, or even a phone call, and will often appear somewhat familiar… asking you to provide information, click on a link, or complete a simple task.

Some common examples include requests like:

  • I’m stuck in a meeting and don’t have access to my laptop, can you please “do a task”
  • Please update some personal information by tomorrow via this link or “something bad will happen”
  • Click here to update your delivery details so you can receive “a package”

The general rule in SCEA Cybersecurity is: if you’re not sure, ask!

If you feel that you may have accessed a suspect website or file, or potentially compromised your login details in any way then please take the time to contact the ICT Support Team (call 444) as soon as possible.

The ICT team will be more than happy to assist.

The risk of a data breach can affect everyone – so there is no harm in checking with us!
