SCEA Association Members gather to open the 2023 school year

Thursday, 2 February brought the Association Members together for the first time in 2023, with Board Chair Mr Robert Edkins outlining the considerable growth in enrolments that the seven SCEA schools have enjoyed in the last 12-18 months. While this is pleasing on several fronts, the need for increased governance and stewardship of SCEA resources into the future is paramount for our SCEA Board.

The meeting focused on risk and compliance for our SCEA Board. An external firm ‘Neometric’ was appointed in late 2022 to review SCEA’s governance structure and present recommendations in line with Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Not-for-Profit Governance Principles.

The Board took the opportunity to discuss with members the need to understand the ‘body of work’ that needs to be completed for the organisation’s good, with some discussion over the time and scope that this work will entail.

Sadly, a quorum was not reached (the minimum number of members required in order for a vote to be taken) and so the meeting was adjourned until Monday, 13 February 2023, where a vote took place to that allowed SCEA Directors to be paid for their work on governance priorities.

The outcome for SCEA moving forward will form the next stage of Governance 2.0, which Mr Edkins outlined as ‘preparing SCEA for its next forty years’ of service as a Christian education provider.

Here are a few photos from the Thursday, 2 February meeting.
