National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is an annual event in which a famous celebrity reads a picture book (via Zoom or video call) to school children all across the globe at the same time.
Students from Kalamunda Christian School (KCS) brought their teddy bears (or favourite reading friends) to school and gathered together to listen to National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronaut Dr Shannon Walker who read ‘Give Me Some Space’ to the gathered group – from the International Space Station currently orbiting Earth!
Around the world, more than 1.5 million students were scheduled to join in NSS this year and it certainly made for an interesting experience – a space woman reading about space from outer space!
Ms Rachel Pendal has been promoting the benefits of Reading and Writing at KCS through the Year 4 Learn About Reading evening in which parents learn about ‘lexile’ levels, the benefits of literature in a child’s life and ways to encourage reading for young minds.
