Faith, Family and Hope on Display: SCC Students Shine at AGWA Exhibition

Two talented students from Swan Christian College are making waves in the WA arts scene after being selected to exhibit in this year’s prestigious Pulse 2025 exhibition at AGWA (the Art Gallery of Western Australia).

Year 12 graduates Ms Lola Beagley and Ms Samantha McKinley were among a small number of students chosen from across the state to showcase their work in the annual exhibition, which celebrates the creativity and talent of young Western Australian artists.

Lola’s artwork, ‘Reflections of Light, Life and Love’, serves as a heartfelt tribute to her late great-grandfather and garnered significant attention during the exhibition opening, even being featured in The West Australian and PerthNow.

“Our theme was perspectives and personal identity, so I wanted to portray my value of family,” she stated.

Inspired by her Visual Arts teacher, Ms Cherie Mongony, Lola crafted a piece that delves into themes of legacy, memory, and faith – a beautiful reminder of the lasting impact of family and faith.

Samantha’s work, a powerful sculpture titled ‘Born Again’ that journeys from darkness to light, was inspired by her Christian faith.

“It represents how hope can emerge even in the hardest times,” she said.

“John 15:4 speaks to the importance of staying connected to Jesus for spiritual renewal and growth. The book, flowers, and gold leaf reaching toward the heart embody themes of renewal and connection, illustrating beauty and growth, even in adversity.”

The piece stood out as a powerful visual testimony to the redemptive nature of faith in the face of adversity.

The Pulse exhibition will run at AGWA until 10 August, with visitors encouraged to vote in the People’s Choice Award.

We commend Lola and Samantha for this outstanding achievement and celebrate how they have utilised their God-given gifts to inspire others.
