Christian Principals unite to celebrate their long-standing relationship

The small community of Kurrawang would be unfamiliar to many of us.  It’s a seven-hour bus ride from Perth and is situated between the towns of Kalagoorlie and Coolgardie.

What it does have is a Christian school with a Principal named Ms Kylie Meredith.  Kylie has made the trek to Perth this week and dropped in to see College Principal Mr Paul Beacham and the team at Southern Hills Christian College.

The Kurrawang mission trip is an annual event that sees Southern Hills students come to the Kurrawang district to spend a week sharing life with the remote community dwellers.

“We look forward to the Southern Hills students visiting us each year.  It really has been a long relationship over many years, and the chance to see Paul and the team here today was too good to miss,” said Kylie yesterday.

Christian Aboriginal Parent-directed School (CAPS) in Kurrawang began in 2015 with just 9 students but has grown to 65 students in 2021, demonstrating that the school is catering for its community and it is delivering an excellent educational product.

“We have people coming on buses each day from Coolgardie and also Kalgoorlie, so it means we are heading in the right direction with our educational offering. We are also aware of what our community needs and we are doing our best to meet these needs through Christian schooling.”

Many staff in our SCEA schools would view Ms Kylie Meredith and her team at CAPS Kurrawang as brothers and sisters in Christ who are in the business of ‘kingdom-building’, albeit hundreds of kilometres from our SCEA school sites. As such, it is good to pray for the work that is being done in our indigenous communities by Christian leaders who can sometimes feel isolated, both geographically and spiritually.

“We want Southern Hills students, staff and parents to know that we appreciate the great work they do each year when they come to visit us. Likewise, any prayers that are offered for our cause are gratefully received. Thanks to the wider Christian community for the awesome support you are giving us through prayer.”
