Design Flair From Year 6 Students Wins Competition For Swan Jacket Design

What were your drawings like in Year 6?

Stick figures? Finger painting? Likewise…

At Swan Christian College Junior School, Year 6 student Kate H. has redefined what young artists are capable of with a striking jacket layout that is turning heads and winning competitions.

The Year 6 students were recently given the opportunity to submit a design for the jacket that students receive in their final year of Junior School.

Ms Susannah Morcombe, the Year 5 and 6 Coordinator for SCC Junior School, was impressed by the level of submissions and the ability of the students to adhere to a ‘design brief’.

“The remit was to design an image or scene that reflected Swan Christian College’s values while including each student’s first name and the words ‘Year 6 2021’ in the design. There were so many wonderful designs submitted, displaying an absolute wealth of creativity in the Year 6 cohort!” said Ms Morcombe this week.

“Staff were hard-pressed to pick! In the end, Kate’s design with the image of a beautiful swan was chosen, and you can see what a splendid job she has done with this project.”

Kate said she spent a lot of time researching swans and different drawings before starting to create something with her flair.

“I was inspired by the school’s name and, of course, the area in which I live,” said Kate, “I never expected my design to end up on a jacket worn by all the Year 6’s at Swan Christian College!’

For this Year 6 cohort, they will have the opportunity to wear their jackets during their final year on the Junior School campus, as well as on their trip to Broome later in the year.

A great design, Kate!
