Move over, Cristiano Ronaldo!
You’re too old, Lionel Messi!
The boys from Swan Christian College (SCC) are dominating the soccer world in Perth this week, after reaching the State Final against CBC Fremantle in the ACC Championship Final at Sam Kerr Stadium.
The new ‘specialised soccer program’ that was launched at SCC earlier this year by Physical Education teacher Mr Matt Spencer has yielded excellent results, with the boys’ team winning the North Eastern Associated Schools (NEAS) premiership, and then advancing through three knockout stages against Perth’s best soccer schools.
The students from Year 6 filled up the SCC Library at lunchtime, with the gymnasium full of secondary students catching the action.
Despite holding CBC Fremantle scoreless for much of the Final, two late goals from the Fremantle side saw them take out the State title 2-0.
SCC took the Runner-Up trophy and Coach Spencer vowed to be back next year to again challenge for the trophy.

Swan’s former Soccer program coach, Mr Stephen Drew (who is now seconded to Head Office and was busy training staff on Wednesday) even took a moment out of his lunch break to catch his former proteges in action through the live-streaming app that broadcast the event, complete with two commentators, action replays and live updates.

Despite going down in the final, the SCC team performed admirably on the day, and the future for Swan’s Soccer Program is very bright!
