For the winter enthusiasts among us, these frosty mornings and rainy afternoons are a welcome opportunity to cozy up with a hot drink in winter woollies.
For others, the idea of months spent with cold feet, dodging the latest office flu, is less appealing.
Thankfully for SCEA employees this year, Mr Paul Fettis (Manager of Risk, Governance and Assurance – SCEA) has provided a list of practical tips to help make winter everyone’s favourite season!

Hygiene and Cleanliness
We’ve all perfected the art of hand washing over the last five years, and 2025 is no different. Washing hands with soap and water or using hand sanitiser is highly encouraged, especially after coughing and sneezing.
While sharing is generally a good thing, when it comes to winter germs, staff members are encouraged to be selfish! Covering mouths and noses with tissues or the inside of elbows when coughing or sneezing helps keep everyone happy.
Keeping our shared spaces nice and clean will not only win us all office-wide brownie points but can go a long way in keeping everyone happy and healthy.
More tips for a happy and healthy winter season
Stay home if unwell: If the office flu does manage to catch up with you, please take some time to rest and recover at home. Once your symptoms are gone (and that TV show has been rewatched), we will see you back in the office!
Flu vaccination: While the flu vaccination can’t fully prevent becoming unwell, it can help reduce the length and severity of symptoms. Sounds like a win!
Winter weather wear: Dressing in warm layers is more than just a fashion statement; it can help reduce the risk of colds and flus, especially if you’re working outside or in a poorly heated area.
Food & water: Water intake is important all year round, especially when working in heated environments that can be dehydrating. Ensuring that your diet is rich in vitamins throughout the winter months will also help boost your immunity to cold and flu viruses.
Let’s stay safe and warm this winter!
