KCS teacher Rachel Pendal published in ‘Teacher’ magazine

The national education magazine Teacher recently featured Kalamunda Christian School’s Mrs Rachel Pendal (Year Four Teacher/Curriculum & Assessment Coordinator) in their article ‘Using Quality Mentor Texts To Explicitly Teach Students How To Write Narratives’.

The Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia (AISWA) initiative utilised the BrightPath assessment techniques (https://www.brightpath.com.au) to create case studies on three independent schools in Perth (Carmel School, Trinity College & Kalamunda Christian School) and the teachers involved then documented their results and developed research data around their findings.

“Initially the group of schools was around twenty in number,” said Mrs Pendal, “but it was a long process of data collation and by the time we reached presentation time at AISWA, we were down to six schools.  They contacted the three successful schools after our presentations were complete.”

It is comforting to know that our SCEA teachers are at the forefront of educational research and are prepared to devote their own time to contribute to this worthwhile initiative.

Nice one, Rachel!
