SCEA Snap Of The Week – Microscopes & Mini-Beasts at Swan!

This week’s SCEA Snap comes from Swan Christian College where the Kindergarten students invited ladies from the South East Regional Centre for Urban Landcare (SERCUL) to study ‘macroinvertebrates’ and ‘mini-beasts’.

Kindy kids put on their scientist hats and used scientific instruments to search the water for creatures. Once they found them, they placed these wonderful creations under the microscope to identify them.

Some examples of what they identified were damselfly larvae, midge larvae, a prawn crustacean carrying eggs on its belly, tadpoles and back swimmers.

These creatures clean the wetlands and provide food sources for other animals.

Students learned about so many amazing creatures in their local waterways!

Our SCEA ‘Snap’ of the week refers to a colourful or emotive post that one of our SCEA schools has posted on their social media feeds. Commonly referred to as ‘socials’, your SCEA school’s social media feed can refer to posts on school websites, dedicated Facebook pages, Instagram accounts or other forms of social media that the marketers maintain each day.

Feel free to send your contributions for SCEA Snap of the Week to scea_snap@scea.wa.edu.au
