SCEA students are ‘One and Free’ across campuses this week

Ellenbrook students sing “One and Free!”

This week marked the beginning of a very special project for our SCEA schools. Australia’s National Anthem (Advance Australia Fair) is being filmed by each one of our seven schools across the Perth metropolitan area and will be amalgamated into a new video which represents our unity as a group of schools and as an Australian nation which is reflected in the lyrics, “for we are one and free.”

On 1 January 2021, the Federal government approved the changing of the second line of the Australian National Anthem from ‘For we are young and free’ to ‘For we are one and free’.

This change presented an excellent opportunity to promote unity across the Swan Christian Education Association, and our schools were challenged with the task of creating a video that depicts SCEA students performing the new version of the National Anthem.

The project started with the talented William Vasiu (Swan Christian College) writing a new arrangement of the National Anthem, which reflected a contemporary style while maintaining traditional chord structures.

With the music composition completed, video production has begun in each of our schools. The crew also ventured out to Bells Rapids for a sunrise shoot this morning!

Expert filmmaker, Paul Dean (from Monday Media) is working closely with Ellenbrook/Beechboro Marketing and Community Relations Officer, Steven Wellbeloved to make the project a reality for SCEA. It forms part of a wider program to acknowledge our country and understand our role as citizens in Australia. The project is continuing to take shape across our schools and should be completed by the end of Term 1.
