Managed Device Deployment Days Prepare Students Across SCEA for Enhanced Learning

Were you swimming in the ocean over the January break?

Maybe tending to your garden or reading that book that you’ve been dying to get into for a while…

Well, our ICT staff may have had visions of that, but they were busy preparing for ‘Deployment Days’ across SCEA, as the Managed Device program began for students in Year 7 and 10 in participating SCEA schools this year.

At each participating SCEA school, our teams were present, equipping parents and students to utilise their new, “education-only” managed Apple devices for the 2026 school year.

Starting in Term 1 this year, the Managed Device program is designed to create a secure, education-focused learning environment.

Students in Year 7 and 10 will lease a fully managed iPad or MacBook for their educational use.

‘Deployment Days’ – the training and provision of these new Apple devices – was held during the January school break at each participating SCEA location, featuring parent training from Mr Stephen Drew (SCEA – Manager of Digital Learning).

Facilitated by SCEA’s Applications team and school Technician Support representatives, each student received their new device and began the onboarding process ahead of the new term.

So, what does this mean for students starting school this year?

Students in intake year groups will have a different experience using digital devices in classrooms!

All managed devices are locked down for educational use only, meaning all gaming and social media content is off-limits.

“We want to rethink what the primary use of an educational device is,” says Mr Stephen Drew.

“A personal device gets used for both learning and leisure activities, making it hard to focus on learning while using it, but a managed device is purely for education.”

Teachers may find that the Managed Device Program creates a classroom environment that is more focused and tailored to the needs of the group and individual students, thanks to Apple Classroom – now in use across participating year groups.
