The release of the ‘Student Flourishing in Australian Christian Schools’ at the 2025 National Leaders’ Summit (the largest study involving secondary school students globally) offered the opportunity for SCEA personnel to meet with the new WA Education Minister, the Honourable Sabine Winton MLA, recently.
The discussion, which took place at Dumas House (near the WA Parliament in West Perth), included Dr Darnelle Pretorius (Principal, Swan Christian College), Mr Nick Wood (Chief Operating Officer, SCEA), and Dr Graeme Cross (Chief Executive Officer, SCEA).

The discussion topics ranged from the recent report findings (which involved consultation with Harvard University through Christian Schools Australia), through to educational support service provisioning (based on SCEA visits to Christian educational support units across Australia), and opportunities for future collaborations between the Minister and our seven schools across Perth.
The Minister, who had previously served as a teacher several years ago, was open to hearing about classroom practices and ways in which the Cook Government can assist with the delivery of education to all levels of society through schooling and support centres.

At Beechboro Christian School (BCS) this week, Ms Tania Lawrence MP (Federal Member for Hasluck) visited the new site on Bennett Springs Drive to present the different flags that represent our state and national heritage to the Year 6 leaders.
Mr Michael Bolan (Principal – Beechboro Christian School) gave Ms Lawrence a brief tour of the school, with Mr Johann van der Walt (Corporate Services Manager – Beechboro Christian School) highlighting the construction projects completed since her last visit, including the undercover area and nature playground.

The two Year 6 Student representatives gratefully received the new flags for the flagpoles at the front of the school. The state Member for Bassendean (ALP representative Dave Kelly MLA) is set to visit the school in Term 4 to celebrate the work being undertaken to install new shade sails based on a monetary grant for BCS.
