Whatever you may think of politicians and the game of politics, at the heart of their role and work is service for the greater good of society. And while there may be some policies turned laws that we really question as being for the ‘good’, we are blessed to live in a country where policy is rigorously debated, and laws carefully constructed and upheld, all with the intention of producing respectful, harmonious and productive communities.
There is really no difference in the policy space across SCEA. The politics (on a small scale) of strategy, consultation, debate, consensus, writing, publicising and enforcing are there to serve the greater good of our learning communities.
So, what is on the current policy agenda?
Student Recruitment & Enrolment Policy
The ‘Student Recruitment and Enrolment Policy’ has had a comprehensive rewrite to reflect the introduction of EnrolHQ across our schools and should be uploaded to the intranet within the next fortnight. Particular thanks go to Lize Janse van Rensburg for her expert advice!
Incursions, Excursions, Camps and Tours (IECT) Policy
As a result of the recent consultation with principals, senior leaders, and administrative staff, significant progress has been made in the completion of the vital and essentially new ‘Incursions, Excursions, Camps and Tours (IECT) Policy’. It is anticipated that it will be ratified in early August. Particular appreciation to Sara Beatty (ECC) and Kylee Retallack (MCC) for their assistance throughout the review process.
Gifted and Talented Policy
This term the Learning Support Network will be undertaking a full review of the current ‘Gifted and Talented Policy’ toward producing a new High Ability Students Policy and Framework. If you are not currently part of the network but have a particular interest in this area, please contact Dr Weaver (ext 434).
Student Wellbeing Policy
This term, the Wellbeing and Chaplaincy Network are aiming to finalise a new Student Wellbeing Framework across SCEA. The current ‘Student Wellbeing Policy’ will then be updated and uploaded.
Board Code of Conduct Policy
The SCEA Board of Directors have recently reviewed the ‘Board Code of Conduct Policy’ and ‘Board Conflict of Interest Policy and Declaration’ and currently are undertaking a major overhaul of the ‘Delegations of Authority Policy‘.
A reminder that all SCEA Policies, all recently reformatted and coded, can be easily searched for on the SCEA Intranet https://sceanet.sharepoint.com/sites/SCEAIntranet
As always, being a politician is about trying to be ‘all things to all people’. We will continue to work to achieve this for our SCEA schools now and into the future.
