Tuesday morning saw the return of the Leavers2Leaders 2019 trip from the Philippines, with students from Mundaring, Swan, Ellenbrook and Southern Hills completing 12 days in the rural provinces of Negros Occidental to ‘live like a local’ and experience the Filpino culture.
This year marked the 10th anniversary of the trip with Southern Hills Principal Paul Beacham leading the team with Ellenbrook’s chaplain Darren “Pickles” Peakall taking Ellenbrook students to a second site to continue work on a basketball court for the Cabacungan locals.
“What an awesome experience! The highs, the lows! Just wow!” said Mr Peakall on his return in the early hours of Tuesday morning. “I feel like this has been a very long journey. I am ready for a lie down in my office at Ellenbrook! But seriously, I really appreciated all the hard work and comradeship. A top group of people to be working hard with.”
