PASSING OF THE BATON
It is with great expectation for where God is leading the Association that members and friends welcomed Dr Graeme Cross as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the recent Swan Christian Education Association (SCEA) annual general meeting (AGM). Retiring CEO, Neil David, in a heartfelt speech, thanked members of the Board and the Community for their support in his time at the helm. “If you would allow me to slightly misquote Winston Churchill, getting back to the core mission of SCEA – ‘This is not the end, this is not even the beginning of the end, this is just perhaps the end of the (new) beginning.’”
The 2019 SCEA AGM was held Wednesday, June 26 in the Conference Room at Swan Christian College. The meeting opened with a devotion from Director Shelley Forbes, who highlighted the children of SCEA and the young hearts and minds that are impacted daily from what happens in each of our schools.
Matthew 19:14 – Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Dr Graeme Cross, SCEA’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) addressed the Association members prior to the election of new directors with a call for all SCEA directors to
1. stay true to the mission of SCEA,
2. provide accountability to the Association, and
3. to be the ‘brains trust’ for SCEA.
“There is a need for all boards and oversight committees to be made up of individuals from all different demographics and for people with complementary skill sets to step up to lead the Association.”
Speeches were made by directors-elect Terry Myers and Craig Clark, and existing Director and current Board Chair Rob Edkins, followed by a vote where they were all elected for a 3-year term. A vote was also taken confirming Murray Thornhill, Simon Creek and Caroline Blake as Grievance Officers. We look forward to sharing more about our directors and the board direction over the coming weeks and months. SCEA’s 2018 Annual Report was presented with Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Rowan Joubert providing an overview of the financials and outgoing CEO Neil David highlighting the key points of his report.
The night concluded with prayers from directors Don Warner and Steve McAlpine followed by a celebratory supper for Neil David in the Maali Mia Room.
We look forward to what God has in store for the Association in the year ahead.
