God made the World Special (Creation)

God made the world and asked us to take good care of it.

Rationale

In Genesis 1:26-28, God gave humanity dominion over his creation. This dominion is in the form of a stewardship. On the one hand the creation is created to meet our needs and we have the right to exploit as needed and humanity stands apart from and people are more important than the rest of creation. On the other hand, God cares for his creation, as Jesus noted in Matthew 6, and God remains the Lord over all creation. We are thus commanded to also care for his creation and not despoil it. Sin has caused us to be very greedy and so only think about ourselves. This is not God’s way. He has given everyone and everything more than enough for their needs to be met if will learn to give rather than take.

Ideas/Strategies for Lessons

Play dough – a creation – do you want some-one to mess it up?Make person from lump of clay – blow on it – does not come to life … Only God can give life
Pretend making a cake – add normal ingredients – then pretend to add e.g. sand – students will protest – discuss how God knew how to make the world perfect
Pages of creation (as empty spaces), then fill it with the created life forms
Pages of creation days put on pegs - to play games (e.g. Which is missing?)
Ecology – logical order – food sources e.g. grass was made first
Physical experience of creation: E.g. Under dark blanket – darkness; Box big enough to crawl into – luminous stars or torches with stars
Diorama – each week add another part of creation
Edible creation: Blue jelly, Chocolate instant pudding, jelly babies (Children think of ideas self)
Created beautiful sea picture – ask children to pick up rubbish (provide or save  some from lunch), ask children to glue onto picture –They don’t like it
