CRU West Teachers’ Conference @ SCC allows teachers to gather and discuss the role of faith in Christian schools

Swan Christian College (SCC) played host on 30 May, 2023 to the CRU West Teachers’ Conference, which is aimed at equipping teachers and chaplains in Christian schools who seek to help the students in schools who are keen to know and follow Jesus.

CRU West has been active in Western Australia since 2015 and possessed a great line-up of speakers for the Conference, with several present and ex-SCEA students and staff taking part in the sessions.

The keynote speech came from Dr Rory Shiner, the senior pastor at Providence City Church in Perth. Other speeches from CRU West Director Mr Ed Surrey and former SCEA Board member Mr Steve McAlpine allowed teachers and chaplains to hear from pastors who have a heart to see young people interact with the gospel in SCEA schools and other Christian schools across Western Australia.

The elective sessions were thought-provoking, allowing the participants to learn and discuss ways to be more effective in their ministry to young people.

Electives included:

  • Making Chapel Engaging,
  • Navigating the Online Classroom,
  • Tackling Tricky Questions,
  • The A-Z of Starting and Running a CRU Group, and
  • Being the Bad Guys: How to Live for Jesus in a World that Says You Shouldn’t
